Facebook Director, Data Center Facility Operations - West in Ashburn, Virginia

Facebook is seeking a Director to lead Data Center Facility Operations for our operating sites in the western region of the US. Our western region is made up of data centers in Oregon, Utah, and New Mexico, as well as future sites that are yet to be announced/built. This role will provide oversight, monitoring, and direction to operating data centers, with a strong focus on leadership and operational excellence. This role will also create industry leading vision and strategy, scale operations, develop management talent, and develop robust processes and standards to enable Facebook’s expansion. This position is full-time and will be located at or near a Facebook office or data center in North America.

Required Skills:

  1. Lead the data center Facility Operations teams for the operating sites in the western region of North America

  2. Build a high performing team by mentoring and developing the management team and individual contributors

  3. Develop robust processes and standards to enable operational efficiency and effectiveness

  4. Develop a scalable facility operations model to include a documented roadmap, goals, and objectives

  5. Evolve the staffing model to support the requirements of a global world-class organization

  6. Define and manage to Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for mission critical facility operations

  7. Provide leadership to understand, collaborate, and influence across the organizations that connect with the Infrastructure team

  8. Scope and execute complex data center retrofit/upgrade projects in coordination with the Construction team

  9. Prepare and manage OPEX and CAPEX budgets

  10. Provide leadership for the following: Preventive and predictive maintenance programs, Document standardization of MOPs, SOPs, EOPs, and record drawings, Equipment failure root cause analyses and corrective action plans, and Incident management

  11. Develop and lead effective cross-functional communications between Data Center Campus Facility Managers, the leadership team, and adjacent operating teams

  12. Ability to travel approximately 35%

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 10+ years’ experience leading a data center or technical operations team where high availability is critical

  2. Experience in personnel management and staffing and scheduling for a 24/7 environment

  3. Experience communicating effectively at all levels

  4. Demonstrated track record of thinking strategically and executing tactically

  5. Experience in change management and team building

  6. Proven experience in leadership development

  7. Demonstrated experience in leading projects

  8. Experience in vendor management and negotiations

  9. Experience in data center power and cooling infrastructure or other complex critical systems, and experience applying that to current data center challenges

  10. Demonstrated problem-solving skills

  11. Experience working in a fast-paced, hands-on, start-up work environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. BS in Engineering or other technical discipline

  2. Experience in managing large teams

  3. Experience in diverse industries such as electrical generation, electrical distribution, cooling technologies, and fire suppression systems

  4. Knowledge of environmental health and safety programs
