Summary:

The Facebook AR/VR team is helping more people around the world come together and connect through world-class Augmented/Virtual Reality (AR/VR) hardware and software. With global departments dedicated to AR/VR research, computer vision, haptics, social interaction, and more, Facebook is committed to driving the state of the art forward through relentless innovation. The potential of AR/VR to change the world is immense and we are therefore looking for exceptionally talented individuals to join us. The Epitaxy Engineering Manager will be responsible to lead the strategy and direction for Epitaxy R&D for the advancement of LED Epitaxy Materials Systems for AR Displays. He/she will have demonstrated an ability to create/manage a world class R&D team in a hi-tech R&D environment. Additionally, the ideal candidate will also have excelled as a scientist/engineering manager in the fields of LED, Lasers or relevant display technologies. The role also includes working with our external partners in the Semiconductor Epitaxy industry. The job is particularly suited to a person with a strong technical and management experience and a passion to get the job done on time and to specification. The successful candidate is expected to work cross functionally within the organisation to meet all roadmap and product goals and will join the management team of a vibrant, multidisciplinary and fast-moving R&D environment. This is a full-time position based in our Cork site, Ireland.

Required Skills:

  1. Ensuring that the overall Epitaxy R&D Strategy is in line with our technology roadmap and commercial direction for AR Displays

  2. Managing a high-performance R&D team to maximise team impact and program goals

  3. Managing all Epitaxy related human research and development resources to ensure all R&D programs run smoothly and efficiently

  4. Oversight for the technology vision and strategy for the R&D team to ensure effective prioritisation and allocation of resources

  5. Communicate Epitaxy R&D status to stakeholders and various key teams around the broader organisation

  6. Valued member & contributor to the Management Team to support the operations management and technical project management functions of the organisation

  7. Provide technical expertise in blue, green and red LED (or Laser) epitaxy growth

  8. Responsible for MOVPE R&D for red, green and blue LED wafers (QWs, Q-dots, nano structures) and coordination of epitaxy in R&D-projects with external R&D-partners (universities, research institutes, industry)

  9. All external industry partnerships to drive knowledge and development

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or higher (ideally PhD or MBA) in Materials Science, Applied Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering or equivalent field/ equivalent experience

  2. Proven Track Record in the Epitaxy Industry as Principal Technologist or equivalent Senior Research or Engineering Role

  3. Exemplary Leadership and People Management

  4. Experience working in tech/semiconductor industry

  5. Program management experitise

  6. Extremely strong communication skills and experience working with highly technical teams

  7. Excellent interpersonal skills, including relationship building and collaboration within diverse, cross-functional teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Results oriented, self-motivated, proactive with demonstrated creative and critical thinking capabilities

  2. Capable of dealing with ambiguity and fast changing pace environment

  3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to remove any impediments facing researchers and their ability to overcome complex problems
