Instagram is looking for an energetic, creative, team-oriented addition to its EMEA public policy team. The ideal candidate will have both a passion for Instagram and a strong willingness to understand Instagram’s approach to public policy, as well as how those initiatives fit within the larger Facebook organisation.
The role is to support the Instagram EMEA public policy team’s work in the region, with a focus MENA but not exclusively as the role is within a small (5 person) EMEA-wide team. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver impact across the region and subregion through identification of risks and opportunities, to act as an adviser on the Instagram platform to support the Facebook public policy regional strategies who are responsible for delivering external outreach and stakeholder engagement. This includes working across a range of content and product areas such as safety, privacy, platform integrity.
The successful candidate will combine a passion for Instagram with strong collaboration skills, the ability to identify risks and work through teams to find policy solutions. Answering to the Head of Public Policy, EMEA for Instagram, the Public Policy Manager will also support the Instagram EMEA public policy program goals, delivered in partnership with the Facebook policy programs and regional teams. The role will support the Instagram Policy Head and regional Facebook policy leadership in developing and delivering on the Instagram Public Policy team’s regional strategy. The successful candidate will join a team dealing with some of the most interesting public policy challenges of our times including privacy, safety and security, and freedom of expression across the EMEA region.
We are looking for candidates with exceptional experience of working in a matrix organisation to deliver impact, with strong internal and external stakeholder management skills, and the ability to manage multiple fast-moving, high-priority issues simultaneously, as well as working proactively to identify opportunities to build trust and understanding of Instagram as a platform among targeted stakeholder groups. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who is used to creating impact in a small team and is willing to roll up their sleeves to do anything to get the job done. They should be collaborative, creative, resourceful, knowledgeable about technology policy issues, analytical, and an excellent writer.
This position is full-time and will be located in Instagram’s London hub or in Dubai.
Work with cross functional teams across Instagram and Facebook to deliver Instagram policy goals in EMEA
Identify, monitor, and analyze policy risks affecting Instagram with focus on MENA, and identify proactive strategies to solve policy challenges
Build innovative strategies to build trust and understanding with regional stakeholder groups (ie: civil society, policy makers and policy influencers)
Contribute to knowledge production of Instagram specific material and collateral, bringing in the sub-regional voice to position papers, research projects, programmatic plans, and Instagram policy collateral
Collaborate and ensure consistency in approach to Instagram and Facebook's policy issues across the region
Significant experience working in-house on public policy, public affairs or in advocacy for international non-governmental organization
Degree or advanced degree in a related field
Keen understanding and interest in public policies related to technology, social media, digital economy, safety and socio-economic development
Excellent communication skills - written and verbal
Excellent research skills and relevant experience
Ability to drive and manage multiple projects and campaigns simultaneously
Highly organized and structured
Strong teamwork experience and proven track record of collaborative approach to problem solving
Willingness to roll up sleeves and do any task required to get the job done
Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic, with superb writing skills (writing samples required)
