Summary:

The Video Systems Engineer is responsible for managing and scaling a global voice/video server infrastructure which is expanding at a rapid rate. As our Facebook video infrastructure expands in both size and complexity, this position will focus on continually improving the interoperability and reliability of the Voice/Video infrastructure with the associated platform that it relies upon. The candidate should have a strong infrastructure and tooling background with experience working in a large distributed server/system environments. The Video Systems Engineer at Facebook focuses on our hardware fleet by developing tooling to work with open APIs, automated device management and health tracking. This position will actively participate in scheduled maintenance activities to ensure systems and infrastructure reliability, utilizing best practices and other methodologies to improve work process performance and results.

Required Skills:

  1. Provide expert insight on Infrastructure optimization and drive for scalable efficiencies across the environment.

  2. Work closely with Enterprise Engineering team to improve overall system design and operations as it pertains to Voice/Video implementations globally.

  3. Develop tooling to increase operational efficiency of the Voice/Video environment.

  4. Support daily operations of global Video Conferencing environment by applying infrastructure and scripting experience to a rapidly expanding voice, video and management network.

  5. Work with a team of operational engineers to improve and document operational efficiency of the Voice/Video infrastructure and associated systems.

  6. Augment and enable software infrastructure to manage, maintain and track hardware in our growing fleet.

  7. Develop systems that proactively capture health status of various hardware components.

  8. Serve as a point of escalation for codec, infrastructure and Voice/Video related incidents.

  9. Work closely with partnering teams and external vendors to drive for improvements and resolutions to issues as they pertain to the Voice/Video environment.

  10. Provide on call support one week per month as an escalation point for Voice/Video infrastructure troubleshooting.

  11. Drive projects to completion with minimal oversight.

  12. Make strong, data driven decisions, to have a positive impact on the Facebook internal collaboration stack.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 4+ years experience with scripting or coding (Python, PHP, BASH, etc.).

  2. 4+ years Linux or Windows Server administration experience.

  3. 3+ years experience with Chef/Chocolatey/Munki or other configuration management systems.

  4. 3+ years experience with VM/vSphere.

  5. Networking experience.

  6. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience with Alerting systems such as Icinga/Nagios.

  2. Experience with Cisco networking hardware/software (Routing/switching/IOS).

  3. Experience with managing large scale fleets of hardware including health checks and remediation.

  4. Trouble shooting and debugging experience.

  5. Experience with project management.
