Summary:

Facebook is seeking highly motivated and experienced team players to serve as Counsels on Facebook’s Data Protection team. We are looking for lawyers to join either the Compliance or Product pillars of the team. Both types of roles offer great opportunities for any candidate who is keen to tackle some of today’s toughest and most important legal challenges in this cutting-edge area of law. The successful candidates will be joining a growing international legal team and working on issues in a vibrant, fast-paced environment. Counsels joining the Product pillar will focus on providing strategic and tactical legal counseling to internal legal, product, operations, and business teams in order to identify and mitigate legal risk in all phases of product development. In the Compliance pillar, Counsels will focus on providing legal advice to internal commercial, employment, security, sales and other business teams in order to identify and mitigate legal risk, and to develop governance frameworks across the business.The ideal candidate will have experience advising on GDPR and privacy regulatory compliance in respect of cutting-edge products, good judgment, a strong work ethic, and a keen interest in learning about new technologies.This role will be based in Dublin, Ireland (relocation assistance available).

Required Skills:

  1. On the compliance side: Advise on, and negotiate, data protection issues within commercial contracts and agreements, and execute on Data Protection tasks such as GDPR recordkeeping and DPIAs

  2. On the product side: Collaborate with product and business teams at all stages of product development to identify any potential legal risk and provide counseling on risk-mitigation

  3. Analyse products, policies and initiatives to provide practical legal risk mitigation strategies for products across multiple jurisdictions

  4. Monitor and respond to developments in data protection and information security (i.e., new laws, regulations, important judgements, regulatory guidance, etc.)

  5. Provide full-service support to wider legal team on EU regulatory and litigation matters and liaising with regulators

  6. Provide policy, legal, product, engineering, and other business teams with legal advice on data protection laws and regulations including for external communication, policy development, and enforcement decisions

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Solicitor or barrister (qualified to practice law in at least one European jurisdiction)

  2. Minimum of 4 years of relevant legal experience, including at a law firm or prior in-house experience (applicable litigation, regulatory or more general product counselling experience will be considered)

  3. In-depth knowledge of legal issues in the area of the operation of online social media platforms including an excellent understanding of data protection law and GDPR

  4. Excellent problem-solving, written and oral communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience working directly with European Data Protection Authorities a plus

  2. Experience working with mobile, application development, social networking, online advertising, machine learning, or other Internet technologies

  3. Demonstrated ability to work independently in fast-paced environment and provide pragmatic and considered advice under tight deadline

  4. Knowledge of, or fluency in, other European languages a plus.
