Facebook Accounting Manager - Global Contingencies in Menlo Park, California

Summary:

Facebook is seeking an Accounting Manager over Global Contingencies with a controllership background who can move fast, learn quickly and help to build a sustainable and efficient operational and financial process. As a member in our growing and dynamic Technical Accounting team at Facebook, you will be responsible for understanding and maintaining control of our global contingencies while collaborating with various key cross-functional business partners. In this highly visible role, you will leverage your experience in U.S GAAP to ensure global adherence through both a hands-on detailed approach and by educating the various stakeholders. Your ability to communicate concisely, effectively, and simply will help inform all key stakeholders of the accounting requirements and business implications, particularly those with limited or no accounting background. You will also embrace ambiguity and Facebook’s move fast culture by prioritizing responsibilities based on impact in an ever evolving and changing landscape. You will drive the design and implementation of an internal system for tracking, maintaining, and analyzing our global contingencies. You will also have external facing opportunities by attending conferences and participating in industry roundtables.

Required Skills:

  1. Interpret U.S. GAAP standards and SEC guidance to determine the accounting and financial reporting treatment for new, material, and/or complex contingencies

  2. Practically apply the key concepts within ASC 450 Contingencies in real-life scenarios

  3. Prepare or review technical accounting memorandums considering critical inputs from Facebook’s legal and tax organizations

  4. Develop deep relationships with Facebook’s legal organization as a trusted partner and advisor on ASC 450 matters and its impact to Facebook’s financial statements and disclosures

  5. Oversee, manage, and coordinate the global contingency process with various stakeholders, from identifying contingencies, to assessing them, and coordinating with our global Accounting Operations teams on the recognition

  6. Collaborate with Accounting Operations, other finance functions, key business stakeholders including Tax, Legal, Financial Planning and Analysis and external auditors to support the preparation and review of accounting positions, policies, and financial statements

  7. Design and improve key processes and internal controls to handle our rapidly developing regulatory and legal environment and its impact on accounting for contingencies

  8. Manage existing systems and tools and partner with enterprise engineering to design and implement new functionalities to support emerging complexities and operational needs

  9. Keep pace with developments in the U.S. and international regulatory and legal environments and partner with various stakeholders on impact assessment

  10. Provide insight on or prepare new or existing accounting policies based on industry standards and best practices

  11. Actively participate or assist with external facing stakeholder activities such as attending accounting conferences

  12. Facilitate training on relevant accounting topics to Facebook business partners and stakeholders

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. BA/BS in accounting, finance, or related

  2. 7+ years of accounting, finance or related experience

  3. CPA or equivalent qualification

  4. US GAAP experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. 4+ years public accounting experience

  2. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in critically analyzing and documenting contingencies

  3. Experience working through ambiguity to communicate clear accounting positions and operational solutions

  4. Experience as a project manager of a system design/implementation

  5. Experience in the technology or social media industry
