Facebook AR\VR Product Design Manager, Experiences in Menlo Park, California

In AR/VR Experiences, we are focused on defining the generation of experiences in AR and VR and finding new ways for people to connect, and build communities. As a design manager on the AR/VR Experiences Team, you will join a cross-discipline team of designers, engineers, and artists who are passionate about creating VR experiences where users can hang out, socialize, and play with others. You will lead the design team in discussions around what types of experiences we want to explore that uniquely leverage the strengths of AR and VR, and then guide the team through an end-to-end development cycle where teams prototype, then productize an experience. You will be involved in every aspect of the product development process, from collaborating on the vision of the experiences to defining the creative direction, to end stage user testing and iteration to deliver a high quality product. We are looking for candidates who are passionate about the future of VR.

As a leader, you will be expected to build then lead teams of designers with different specializations from 3D prototyping, game design, UI/UX design to interaction design, and guide them so that they are able to do the best work of their careers. As a design visionary, you will be expected to use your full range of product, interaction, systems, and visual design skills to raise the craft of your team, and deliver the highest quality product. This position is full-time and based in Menlo Park, CA.

Required Skills:

  1. Lead design teams in the research, design, prototyping (in Unity) and delivery of new experiences for our current lineup of products

  2. Synthesize learnings, strategic and design decisions then communicate them broadly to your cross-functional partners and the wider AR/VR Experiences org

  3. Thoroughly review and provide feedback for designers to improve their craft and product quality

  4. Clearly articulate your team's design decisions to internal stakeholders

  5. Work with your Product Management, Engineering, and User Research partners to contribute to product strategy

  6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver a well-executed, end-to-end feature or product that hits a high quality bar

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 5+ years experience shipping software products or 3D experiences

  2. 3+ years experience building, managing or leading teams of at least 5 full-time designers

  3. Experience with real-time 3D development such as Unity/C# or Unreal

  4. Experience with delivering 0-1 products from concept stages to launch

  5. Proven experience to communicate across organizations

  6. Proven problem solving experience and experience overcoming challenges

  7. Experience with shipping mobile, console, PC games or social and gaming platforms

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. At least 1 VR product in your portfolio

  2. Ability to thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments

  3. Game development experience across multiple surfaces (console, mobile, PC, VR, AR)

  4. UI development experience in a 3D product
