Attempting to connect the world requires an alternative approach to building and deploying telecom network infrastructure. Through organizations like the Telecom Infra Project (www.telecominfraproject.com (http://www.telecominfraproject.com/)) and through direct engagement with individual operators around the world, the team collaborates globally with the telecom industry to identify and execute a range of connectivity programs. If you have an interest in working with operators, ISPs and other industry stakeholders to drive innovative, cutting edge, cost efficient wireless and network infrastructure projects that will deliver internet access to the unconnected while significantly scaling current networks – then this is a great role for you.

As a leader on the Connectivity Technologies and Ecosystems team, your primary focus will be formulating and leading our strategic approach in the connectivity ecosystem. You will work closely with the Facebook Connectivity team and TIP ecosystem members to develop telecom infrastructure in the areas of wireless access, backhaul, core networking, optical and satellite communication systems. In parallel, you will interface with industry leading partners, including hardware/software vendors and systems solution providers. Finally, you will work closely with network operators adopting the telecom infrastructure to understand how Facebook and its partners’ contributions can be of most impact to this diverse ecosystem. This position is full-time and is based in Menlo Park.

Required Skills:

  1. A technical expert who takes a company-wide perspective to problem solving, questions the status quo, and applies a strategic vision for shaping Telecom Infrastructure Project (TIP) efforts across access, backhaul and core domains.

  2. Establish and develop personal and functional credibility with key leaders of industry partners and operators.

  3. Defining cutting edge telecom network deployment approaches and leading operator trials of innovative infrastructure solutions, in turn fulfilling the vision for wider scale telecom infrastructure adoption.

  4. Lead internal cross‑functional engagements with program management, engineering, partnerships, product management and supply chain teams in advancing projects.

  5. Lead team towards solving complex, often early/definitional-level problem and identifying new areas of opportunity.

  6. Advocate internally at Facebook, through the Telecom Infrastructure Project (TIP), and the partner community at large on how to successfully deploy new telecom hardware and software contributions across the industry.

  7. Educate Facebook teams about how to contribute to TIP, highlight achievements/impact of contributions and share developments coming from partners.

  8. Stay abreast of developments in the telecom domain including technology R&D, use-cases, hardware/software evolution and share that knowledge with the team.

  9. Support the direction and expansion of the team, helping to scope future roles as the charter of the team grows.

  10. Willingness and ability to travel internationally up to 20% of time.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. B.S. in a technical discipline or equivalent experience.

  2. Organizational and coordination experience along with multitasking experience.

  3. Partnership and program experience at technology and operator companies.

  4. Experience in partner management, a track record of influencing change in organizations, and experience synthesizing and executing against problems and timelines.

  5. Interpersonal experience, including relationship building and collaboration within a cross-functional team.

  6. 10+ years experience as an R&D lead, solutions architect, product manager, technical marketing manager in one or more of the telecom infrastructure areas - wireless access, backhaul and core networking.

  7. Knowledge of mobile telecom infrastructure system architecture, network design principles, wireless spectrum bands coupled with experience in planning, designing or deploying telecom networks.

  8. Knowledge with evolution and development of at least one of cellular (2G/3G/4G/5G), Wi-Fi (802.11n/ac/ax), Wi-Gig (802.11 ad/ay), optical and IP/MPLS networks.

  9. Experience leading technology and industry development, identifying ecosystem partners, investigating performance issues and making necessary trade-offs in order to architect E2E telecom infrastructure solutions.

  10. Experience understanding network operator deployment scenarios such as different geographies, population densities, indoor vs. outdoor, range of ARPUs and uses cases such as fixed/mobile access, enterprise/public access to drive development of infrastructure.

  11. Experience leading in partner development of telecom hardware, protocol software, network management systems, edge content caching systems and applications for adoption of the complete solution.

  12. Experience with internet user data usage patterns and application performance characterization.

  13. Partnership and program experience at technology and operator companies.
