We are looking for a Design Director to join the team with a background in creative direction, branding and design systems, and product design. You must be comfortable working in collaboration with various disciplines across many media. You're a conceptual thinker who can bring your ideas to life in new and inspiring ways. You have a strong point of view on design and it shows in your work. When you decide to make something, you see your vision from concept to launch without any hand-holding. You should have unwavering dedication to design excellence.

The Brand Quality team is a part of our Product Foundation org and is responsible for developing and maintaining the visual systems and in-product creative that establish the voice, tone, and visual craft of the Facebook App. This team develops all of our icons, emojis, product illustrations, product photography, and motion design across all FB App products. It's a multi-disciplinary team made up of creative directors, art directors, producers, designers, illustrators, animators, and other specialist roles to craft high quality experiences. The team collaborates with a broad set of product design teams across the org, eg. Feed, Stories [this is central and core] as well as partnering with agencies, studios, and independents around the world.

Required Skills:

  1. Create sketches, storyboards, prototypes, and/or design specs necessary to guide development of useful and consistent experiences

  2. Work closely with the Creative Director and Content Strategist to implement a cohesive visual style, voice, and tone

  3. Manage a team of creatives to execute on the work

  4. Output illustration, photography, video, animation or other media (as appropriate)

  5. Create visual content with a narrative in mind and an understanding on content hierarchy, beginning – middle - end

  6. Absorb knowledge and direction, build on it to bring ideas to life

  7. Seek out creative opportunities to improve on existing style and approach

  8. Prioritize and execute on high-priority creative moments

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 3+ years of industry experience in a people management role on a design team

  2. 10+ years of experience as a member of a Product Design team

  3. Examples of visual and interaction design for web in your portfolio

  4. Technical experience, e.g. has implemented designs with HTML, CSS, JavaScript

  5. Experience shaping and leading product strategy

  6. A portfolio of work that contains examples of Interaction (UX) Design and Visual Systems Development across device

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. 8+ years experience as a Creative Director at a creative agency or an in-house team

  2. Product design, photography, iconography, and illustration experience

  3. Presentation, interpersonal, and communication experience

  4. Experience communicating concepts

  5. Experience taking design feedback and incorporating it

  6. A portfolio of design work

  7. Experience coordinating, directing, and guiding the work of other designers
