Summary:

Facebook's Privacy & Data Use team has the mission of making Facebook the most trusted guardian of data in the world. We work on a number of initiatives to ensure that people are not surprised and policy makers are satisfied about Facebook's data use. Most of these problems are hard and have not been solved at our scale.

We are looking for a leader to spearhead our efforts in applying cutting edge privacy preserving technology such as secure multi-party computation, private set intersection, differential privacy, k-anonymization, etc., to solve challenging issues at the intersection of people’s privacy expectations, customer satisfaction, and business interests. Primary responsibilities in 2019 will be setting a bold vision, structuring our efforts in this open-ended space, building out a high performance applied research team, leading our engagements with the academic community, working with product teams to solve their privacy challenges, and when it makes sense publicizing our work in appropriate forums. This person will have a strong academic and research background as well as significant industry experience. Successful candidate will have the ability to work cross-org and navigate an ambiguous space enabling the organization tackle some of the hardest problems in the privacy space.

  4. Empower and leverage the open Facebook engineering culture.

  5. Have a passion for privacy and be able to positively spread this enthusiasm to partner teams across the organization.

  6. Articulate privacy goals clearly and be able to build consensus while avoiding theoretical or hypothetical arguments.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Proven hands-on technical management.

  2. Demonstrated experience in recruiting, training and managing research teams.

  3. Experience in translating technical concepts to audiences, including software engineers, business and technical leaders, and external privacy community members and press.

  4. PhD in Computer Science or equivalent.
