Facebook is seeking a Network Design Engineer to join our Data Center Connectivity team. Our Data Centers are the foundation upon which our rapidly growing infrastructure efficiently operates and our innovative services delivered. The successful candidate is responsible for ensuring that our physical design of the inside and outside plant structured cabling for our data centers meets the technical requirements of our logical network design. The candidate must be capable of generating global design standards as well as providing effective oversight of the cabling designs at the project level. In addition to assuring designs meet all functional network requirements, the candidate is expected to drive best practices and establish tools, processes, and standards consistent with large-scale data center deployments. Full lifecycle engagement is required, with lessons learned from field deployments rolled into future designs. The candidate is expected to collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, particularly the network engineering team, assuring their requirements are satisfied in the structured cabling design while providing support to the structured cabling design team. This position is full-time and may be based in our main office in Menlo Park, CA or our satellite office in Denver, CO.
Ensure scalable and functional global designs for our fiber optic & copper plant design for our Facebook data centers
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to drive standards that meeting capacity and network requirements and turn-up timelines
Develop global design standards documentation, including network and cabling schematic diagrams, pathway and rack layouts and rack elevations for all ISP and OSP cabling
Work closely with the Designers and Design Engineers, to ensure a high quality design product that is both constructible and functional
Provides support and training on technical design requirements to field and design partners
Assist with RFP & Bid documents to capture all aspects of project deliverables
Coordinate with DCC field teams, contractors, and other departments in Facebook to successfully execute structured cabling builds
Identify and respond to risks and high-priority issues rapidly and effectively
Support development of highly accurate budgets and cost forecasts
Support New Product Introduction activities that improve infrastructure quality, reduce cost and installation time
Travel 20+% to review projects and coordinate with onsite personnel and contractors at Facebook Data Centers
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science
4+ years of engineering experience in a network deployment field
Experience in Design and Documentation Applications (Visio, Bluebeam, Revit, AutoCAD or equivalent)
Knowledge in translating stakeholder and engineering requirements into a set of documentation
Experience specifying fiber requirements based on network bandwidth demand
Knowledge of fiber optic component, cabling, and interconnect products, technologies, and standards
Data center or other mission critical development experience
Network Engineering certifications (CCNP, CCIE or equivalent)
Detail oriented, able to execute effectively and efficiently and meet deadlines, while maintaining a high level of quality
