Summary:

Facebook seeks a Policy Communications Associate Manager to support a wide range of initiatives and programs for the Policy Communications Team in Washington, DC. This role will provide communications support for the policy issues outlined in our Community Standards, working cross-functionally with teams at Facebook on issues. A key part of the role will be fielding media requests, determining how best to respond, drafting statements and responses, and providing background information to help reporters understand Facebook’s policies and features.

This is a full-time position located at Facebook's headquarters in Menlo Park, California.

Required Skills:

  1. Lead communications activities on some of Facebook's most important product policy issues

  2. Manage in-bound press inquiries on a range of issues

  3. Develop and pitch stories

  4. Prepare messaging and other external materials such as blog posts and videos

  5. Support product launches, policy advocacy, and other announcements

  6. Work with our global Policy, Legal, Product, Partnership, and Operations teams to build, understand and communicate corporate and product policies that support and protect our reputation

  7. Create sustainable programs that help educate the press, policy makers and other groups on how Facebook works

  8. Develop proactive PR campaigns to educate new and existing users on issues related to sensitive content and safety

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in communications, liberal arts, or social sciences

  2. 4+ years of communications or related experience

  3. Experience in public policy, public affairs, crisis communications or issues management

  4. Experience working under deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience distilling complex policy or technology concepts into plain language

  2. Experience having media relationships with a wide range of reporters and bloggers

  3. Experience managing cross-functional stakeholder relations in fast-paced and ambiguous environments

  4. Experience developing outreach programs
