Our work aims to understand the people who use our products, gleaning insights to drive product direction and strategy. For this position, we are looking for a range from specialists to methodological generalists, with skills in qualitative research methods.
At the heart of connecting people together is building a platform that fosters sharing between you and family, friends, and community. Messaging is key to this. The messaging market is competitive with a wide range of competitors at different stages of development including 1) Messaging services built on social platforms such as Messenger/FB, Snapchat, Instagram 2) Standalone messaging apps such as WhatsApp, WeChat and Line and 3) Android/iPhone native messaging solutions such as iMessage and Android Messages. This space is complex and growth in such a competitive space is challenging but also rewarding as we are able to connect the world through meaningful conversations.
We need a Qualitative UX Researcher who is capable of tackling all aspects of this problem. Your scope will include working with multiple product teams within Messenger as well as collaborating with different product teams across the company. The right candidates will be communicators, knowledgeable about user experience design and research, passionate about social computing, comfortable in a fast moving organization, excited to collaborate, and focused on impacting the Messenger product and business.
Work closely with cross-functional partners (product management, data science, analytics, business, design, engineering) to identify and prioritize knowledge gaps in our understanding the ways in which users of Facebook Messenger experience the social world, and design research that uniquely contributes to solving for those knowledge gaps
Design and execute end-to-end custom primary research using a wide variety of qualitative and ethnographic methods, and interpret analysis through the lens of business impact, UX, HCI, and social science
Adapt methods to the research question at hand using a range of methods, weave together qualitative and quantitative insights for data-informed understanding
Communicate results and illustrate suggestions in compelling and creative ways
Deliver actionable research insights that make the Messenger user experience measurably better
Effectively manage and prioritize research plans through ambiguous and fast-changing environments, align and efficiently execute critical insights and work with a large group of stakeholders
Lead and deliver research share-outs to a cross-functional team to encourage empathy with and understanding of the Facebook experience for different segments, and identify clear opportunities Facebook can address to improve the experience
Collaborate closely with other researchers
Bachelor in Computer Science, Human Computer Interaction, Psychology, or Social Science
2+ years experience in applied product research
Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods
Experience with survey design
- Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or Master in Computer Science, Political Sciences, Psychology, or Social Science
