Facebook Security Engineer Intern, Insider Threat in Menlo Park, California

Facebook's Security team is looking for a highly motivated Security Engineer to join our internal investigations team responsible for detecting and investigating threats to Facebook. Candidates should have a strong technical background, experience with data analysis, investigative tools, system and network administration, and the ability to build or automate tasks and tools. This is a unique opportunity to protect the data and privacy of our company, employees, and community by detecting, investigating, and mitigating insider threats.

Required Skills:

  1. Use your coding, data analytics and/or investigation skills to hunt, detect and respond to insider threats at scale

  2. Build and monitor detection rules to detect and deter malicious behavior, and defend against insider threats

  3. Write code to support and improve our analysis tools (Haskell, PHP, Python, SQL)

  4. Conduct data-driven research into user/entity behavior to surface anomalies or risks to the company

  5. Build automation and detection models to support identification of anomalous activity and response activities to mitigate insider threats at scale

  6. Summarize and present information from investigations to cross-functional teams

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Experience and proficiency in programming languages. Preferred languages are: PHP/C/C++, Python, Haskell or any functional programming language

  2. Interest or experience working with large data sets. Experience with distributed computing tools a plus (e.g. Map/Reduce, Hadoop, Hive, etc.)

  3. Understanding of operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux) and database tools (e.g. Hbase, SQL, or similar)

  4. Knowledge of statistical analysis concepts, tools, and languages a plus (e.g. R, Matlab)

  5. Ability to communicate complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner

  6. Enthusiasm for the constant fight to ensure security and privacy of private data

  7. Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Must be currently enrolled in a full-time, degree-seeking program and in the process of obtaining a Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science or a related field
