Summary:

In this role, you will use your knowledge of programming languages, compilers, and managed language runtimes to improve Facebook's developer infrastructure. We design and evolve programming languages and runtimes for Facebook developers. You will work with infrastructure engineering teams across the company to ensure that ahead-of-time and JIT compilers, runtimes, front-end language features, and codebase modernization using those languages are efficient for developers, that they leverage our infrastructure better, and proactively reduce the potential for problems earlier, across the largest codebase at Facebook.

As a Technical Program Manager, you will play a key role within Developer Infrastructure engineering, driving projects that span the entire organization. Our team is comprised of varying levels of experience and backgrounds, from new grads to industry veterans, many of whom are experts in programming language & runtime design. Facebook's infrastructure is constantly redefining what is possible, and we need Technical Program Managers who can do the same.

Required Skills:

  1. Manage cross-functional developer infrastructure engineering programs in a matrix organization covering a range of teams and tools.

  2. Develop and manage end-to-end project plans and ensure on-time delivery.

  3. Provide hands-on program management during all phases of compiler & language design.

  4. Perform risk management and change management on projects.

  5. Provide day-to-day coordination and quality assurance for projects, including tracking of multiple language features across diverse teams.

  6. Communicate project status to stakeholders and teams around the organization.

  7. Drive internal process improvements across multiple teams and functions.

  8. Interact with multiple engineering groups for project requirements and scope.

  9. Help drive tooling decisions to align with higher company initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. B.S. in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.

  2. 7+ years of software engineering, systems engineering or technical product/program management experience.

  3. Experience delivering tech programs or products from inception to delivery.

  4. Knowledge of user needs, gathering requirements, and defining scope.

  5. Experience operating autonomously across multiple teams, demonstrated critical thinking, and thought leadership.

  6. Communication experience and experience working with technical management teams to develop systems, solutions, and products.

  7. Organizational, coordination and multi-tasking experience.

  8. Analytical and problem-solving experience with large-scale systems.

  9. Experience establishing work relationships across multi-disciplinary teams and multiple partners in different time zones.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience working with large-scale distributed systems.

  2. Experience with developer platforms and support, including continuous build & integration, compilers & runtimes, and in-house tooling for developer productivity.

  3. Knowledge of pros/cons of more than one programming language and their associated runtimes, if any.

  4. Experience as a product, project, or program manager in programming languages or developer tools, or as a software engineering manager that has in-depth knowledge of programming language features and tech stacks.
