Facebook Production Engineer, Discover Production Engineering in New York, New York

Summary:

Facebook is seeking passionate Engineers who would like an opportunity to join our Discover Production Engineering Program. Production Engineers help us ensure that Facebook's services run smoothly and have the capacity for future growth.

The Discover Production Engineering Program is designed to offer a 12-month assignment with a Production Engineering group to develop engineering skills needed to scale services, and gain meaningful experience for the rest of their career. At the end of the term, successful participants will be considered for a full-time position as a Production Engineer.

Production Engineers are embedded in every one of Facebook's product and infrastructure teams, and are core participants in every significant engineering effort underway in the company.

These roles are based in Menlo Park, CA; Seattle, WA; and New York City, NYC. Applications will be accepted until March 31, 2020. The program starts in July 2020.

Required Skills:

  1. Own back-end services such as Hadoop data warehouses, front-end services like Messenger and Newsfeed, infrastructure components like Memcache infrastructure, and everything in between

  2. Write and review code, develop documentation and capacity plans, and debug the hardest problems, live, on some of the largest and most complex systems in the world

  3. Together with your engineering team, you will share an on-call rotation and be an escalation contact for service incidents

  4. Partner alongside the best engineers in the industry on the coolest stuff around. The code and systems you work on will be in production and used by millions of users all around the world

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 2+ years of full-time work experience in any industry

  2. Coding experience in higher level languages (PHP, Python, C++, and Java)

  3. Experience with configuration and maintenance of applications, for example: Web Servers, Internet Caches, Proxies, SQL, Storage Systems, Messaging Systems, SSH, and DNS

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience in engineering, or a related technical discipline

  2. BS or MS in Computer Science, EE, ME, CE (Engineering & Science)

  3. Experience learning new development languages, new software, frameworks and APIs

  4. Knowledge in large-scale internet service architectures (such as load balancing, LAMP, CDN’s), even if you haven’t worked on one

  5. Detail oriented
