Facebook Mechanical Engineer Intern, Facebook Reality Labs in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Summary:

Facebook Reality Labs brings together a world-class R&D team of researchers, developers, and engineers to build the future of connection within virtual and augmented reality. We're developing all the technologies needed to enable breakthrough AR glasses and VR headsets.Facebook Reality Labs is seeking a Mechanical Engineering intern to support our efforts to build synchronized video and audio capture systems. You will join an interdisciplinary team of mechanical, electrical, and software engineers who are co-located and remote. The work you do will directly impact our research into photorealistic avatars for telepresence in AR/VR.

Required Skills:

  1. Drive the mechanical design and hardware solutions to multifaceted research problems.

  2. Assist in the design of experiments for optical calibration and research.

  3. Conceive elegant, effective ways to address ergonomic and mechanical challenges.

  4. Contribute concepts and problem solving across multiple projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Experience exploring and refining ideas through sketching and hands-on physical prototyping

  2. Fluent in a 3D CAD modeling program (SolidWorks, NX, Fusion, Inventor, etc.)

  3. Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field

  4. Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op

  2. Knowledge of optical systems and camera calibration
