Facebook Audio Technical Program Manager in Redmond, Washington

Summary:

At Facebook Reality Labs, we’re developing the future of Augmented Reality. As a Technical Program Manager, your job will be figuring out what we need to do to build it. You’ll be a critical member of a multi-disciplinary team contributing to our efforts to gain a scientific understanding of eye tracking technology in concert with haptics, audio, computer vision, user interfaces, optics, display technology, and whatever else we dream up to create the ultimate AR experience.

You'll work closely with internal research teams, academic institutions, partners, and vendors to help define requirements and deliverables, schedule and track program progress, coordinate with other internal teams and shared resources, manage external partner relationships, and communicate status to stakeholders. To be successful, you will be eliminating barriers to your team’s success and ensuring the big picture stays in focus while delving into the details on specific issues. Ideal team members are adaptable and resilient, eager to attack unfamiliar problems with curiosity and tenacity, and able to use a light touch to find ways to help the team be more efficient.

Required Skills:

  1. Program manage our research lab’s efforts to develop audio hardware prototypes for VR & AR applications.

  2. Work with research teams to identify scope, constraints, dependencies, and risks.

  3. Develop project schedules to help them to complete research prototypes, user studies, and technology transfer to product teams.

  4. Ensure that the information your team needs is complete, current, accurate, and easy to find.

  5. Recognize when further information is required and work to provide it.

  6. Proactively identify technical, legal, procedural, logistical, and communication issues and drive creative solutions to fix them and manage risk.

  7. Identify resources needed and work closely with team leaders to maintain full visibility of the project schedule and potential roadblocks.

  8. Work with teams to alleviate project bottlenecks and escalate the need to resolve issues when executive support is required.

  9. Coordinate communication between internal and external teams.

  10. Drive deliverables from external partners and ensure that they have the information and resources needed to succeed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a technical field related to acoustics, physics, or equivalent work experience.

  2. 6+ years of experience as a technical program manager or equivalent experience in research, software development, or hardware development.

  3. Experience building and managing relationships with hardware vendors and other external partners, including creating statements of work and negotiating purchase agreements.

  4. Experience understanding and communicating technical information to non-experts.

  5. Experience building, coordinating, and maintaining schedules across multiple teams, managing shared resources, and coordinating with a legal team on IP or similar issues.

  6. Organizational and planning experience.

  7. Interpersonal experience with experience motivating and resolving conflicts.

  8. Experience operating autonomously across multiple teams.

  9. Track record of transitioning immature or emerging technologies into consumer products.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Graduate degree in a technical field such as acoustics.

  2. Experience managing audio engineering projects and rapid prototyping projects.

  3. Experience in research, incubation, or startups - especially in audio related areas.

  4. Experience working with a cross-disciplinary team of researchers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, optical engineers, and software engineer.
