Facebook Camera and Depth Modules Engineer in Redmond, Washington

Summary:

At Facebook Reality Labs (FRL) in Redmond you will work with a world-class group of researchers, engineers and management developing the next generation of sensor and depth modules to drive industry-leading augmented reality systems. We are currently seeking innovative researchers and engineers with a passion for inter-disciplinary problem solving and technology development. This role will own all of the design verification work, including the identification of appropriate module and system level test coverage flowing from expected use cases, and fast iterative cycles evaluating the state of internal development of internal depth and algorithms from initial prototyping stages through to mass production.

Required Skills:

  1. Own 3D depth and module characterization efforts for AR, including the quantitative evaluation of imaging and depth technologies, characterization of prototype hardware and modules, and validating design methodologies from prototype to mass production

  2. Identify how key use case scenarios can be sufficiently covered by quantitative characterization metrics to inform module and system specifications

  3. Collaborate with a cross-functional team of computer vision, software, and hardware experts to explore and evaluate new sensing technologies

  4. Integrate sensor data into data analysis software pipelines and perform statistical and other analyses

  5. Develop testing and metrology capabilities across a broad range of parameters across multiple sensor or depth technologies

  6. Test and capture sensor data and be capable of debugging issues with integrated sensor systems

  7. Work with unfamiliar hardware to evaluate performance at the module and system level

  8. Lead the implementation of a standard set of characterization software to establish a set of data analysis tools for generating reports

  9. Oversee the implementation of camera calibration procedures for prototype hardware

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. MS or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical field

  2. 5+ years' experience working with hardware systems such as cameras, sensors, imaging devices, etc.

  3. 5+ years' experience in product development

  4. 5+ years' MATLAB or Python programming experience

  5. 5+ years' experience with imaging processing and/or working with 3D point cloud data

  6. Experience creating sensor and/or optical test protocols for internal and/or external execution

  7. Experience with camera or depth calibration protocols

  8. Experience preparing reports and presenting results to cross-functional technical teams and executives

  9. Communication Experience and demonstrated experience working across disciplines
