At Facebook Reality Labs, our goal is to invent the user input and interface technologies that will drive the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a talented research scientist with expertise and passion for building advanced sensing systems aimed at solving complex input and interaction problems. As a Research Scientist in the Computational Interaction group at Facebook Reality Labs in Redmond WA, you would focus on developing novel wearable sensing solutions for real-time hand and body interactions as well as on incorporating contextual, environment, and biological signals to enable rich and expressive interactions for AR/VR scenarios. Ideal candidates will have a passion for the intersection of science, design, and engineering of novel interaction solutions. Researchers are expected to integrate their work into real-time interactive systems in our lab and validate their solutions through user evaluations to determine how specific engineering choices impact user experience. Researchers will have the opportunity to publish in peer-reviewed conferences and journals and are expected to effectively collaborate with cross-disciplinary experts, including applied machine learning, electrical, mechanical, and software engineering, perceptual science, and design.
Plan and execute cutting-edge research agenda to advance novel sensing and sensor fusion solutions for more expressive body interactions.
Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and designers across disciplines to solve complex problems and evaluate the effectiveness of developed solutions through user evaluations.
Work closely with peer research and incubation groups to incorporate scientific advances into larger cross-group efforts.
Publish and present papers at international conferences and journals, attend top conferences in human-computer interaction, ubiquitous computing, and related fields.
Mentor and supervise PhD interns.
Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD in the field of computer science, human-computer interaction, robotics, electrical engineering, or related field.
Interpersonal skills: cross-group collaboration and cross-culture collaboration.
Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
Experience implementing real-time signal processing, sensor fusion, and machine learning solutions for interactive applications.
Understanding of HCI fundamentals: demonstrated record in design and evaluation of interfaces and input technologies.
Computational background, including 3+ years of experience in C++/C# or Python.
Proven track record of achieving research results, demonstrated by minimum 3 publications in peer reviewed journals and conferences in human-computer interaction, ubiquitous computing, artificial intelligence, or AR/VR.
Experience with 3D graphics and Unity game engine.
Experience with haptic technologies.
Strong understanding of AR/VR input and interaction technologies and literature.
