Facebook Sustaining and R&R Engineering Lead in Redmond, Washington


As a Sustaining and R&R Engineering Lead at AR/VR, you will partner with internal and external engineering teams in support of repairing and improving functionality of prototype devices. You will function as an expert in design optimization and failure analysis methods. You will manage technician workload for hardware field response and implementation of device rework processes to achieve expedient repair. You will advise mechanical and electrical design engineers in implementing design improvements. An additional function of this role is ensuring the customer is represented to the cross-functional teams. You will lead hardware field metric reporting and be a key member in field triage.Our product development team explores, develops, and delivers new cutting-edge technologies into products. We are focused on integrating and launching new technologies from early concept, iterating the design and prototyping new experiences that open up new possibilities for our customers. We seek candidates with the ability to collaborate with internal design teams and external partners to ensure robust device designs, testing methods, and manufacturing processes.

Required Skills:

  1. Work with internal and vendor teams to identify the resources required to meet sustaining needs in both technical analysis and manufacturing repair

  2. Lead development and implementation of customer response to hardware failures and/or functional enhancement requests

  3. Lead internal and vendor test teams to optimize design, assembly and test to reduce field failures

  4. Lead internal and vendor teams in failure analysis, DOE testing and solution validation

  5. Manage hardware failure reporting metrics

  6. Manage and prioritize tasks of field support and repair technicians

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. BS or MS degree in engineering or related field, or equivalent experience

  2. 4+ years of experience in consumer electronic products

  3. Experience with failure analysis and DOE methods

  4. Experience with hardware development cycle, and sustaining hardware

  5. Experience in manufacturing assembly and test development

  6. Experience leading engineers and technicians in daily work and building teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience optimizing design of existing product or device

  2. Experience with optical electro-mechanical systems

  3. Experience with building cross-functional relationships

  4. Experience with driving for results, motivation, and urgency

  5. Experience with being in a leadership position with minimal supervision
