Summary:

At Facebook Reality Labs (FRL), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a manager with passion for technology and leadership to join our team, whose mission is to deliver beyond state-of-the-art Waveguide Technologies for consumer near to eye displays at our research and development facilities.

We are specifically looking for a candidate with experience leading cross-functional projects in nanofabrication and tools with application to display systems and nanostructured optics. In this role, you will collaborate with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers with expertise in the field of computation, materials, process technology, integration and optical design. You will be empowered to both execute on the current technology roadmap and define the future research direction. You will receive full support from the management and leadership team to grow your management and leadership skills.

Required Skills:

  1. Manage a team of optical scientists and nanofabrication engineers, with the mission to deliver early technology prototypes.

  2. Establish trusting relationships with external partners.

  3. Collaborate cross-functionally with the Materials, Design, Metrology, and Productization teams to develop the future technology roadmap.

  4. Work closely with Facebook Reality Labs Research to accelerate integration of innovation into Research and development activities.

  5. Collaborate with the research lab management to ensure operational efficiency.

  6. Maintain a safety-first work environment.

  7. Participate and drive lab-safety initiatives.

  8. Perform standard management functions such as conducting performance reviews, establish individual development plans, manage execution of budgetary elements.

  9. Promote and apply high standards for diversity and inclusion.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. A Masters’ degree in the field of Engineering, Optical Sciences, Physics, or related areas, or 7+ years of equivalent experience.

  2. 2+ years of experience needed in a technical cross functional leadership position.

  3. 5+ years of experience in standard nanofabrication technologies including lithography, etch, deposition, cleans, metrology, and materials.

  4. Experience in cross-group collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. PhD degree in the field of Engineering, Optical Sciences, Physics, or equivalent experience.

  2. 2+ years of experience in diffractive optics or photonics.

  3. 2+ years of experience in Augmented Reality display concepts.

  4. 2+ years of experience in design-of-experiments, structured problem solving, and risk assessments techniques.
