Meta Wearable Sensing Research Scientist in Redmond, Washington

Summary:

At Meta Reality Labs Research, RLR, our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of augmented, virtual, and mixed-reality experiences. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Sensing Researcher to join our team, whose mission is to work with a multidisciplinary team of researchers to advance the state of the art for AR/VR interaction devices. We are specifically looking for a candidate with broad knowledge of sensor design, sensor fusion, state estimation, signal processing & modeling, machine learning algorithms, and who can implement this knowledge in software to drive progress in next-gen AR/VR human-computer-interaction research. More broadly, the chosen candidate will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers, designers, and engineers, and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.

Required Skills:

Wearable Sensing Research Scientist Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct Cutting-Edge Research: Design, develop, and evaluate novel sensor technologies and techniques to enhance user interaction and manipulation within virtual and augmented reality environments.

  2. Design Prototype and Experiment: Create experimental setups, develop prototypes, and conduct rigorous testing to validate sensor concepts and ideas.

  3. Perform Data Analysis: Analyze data collected from experiments and user testing to gain insights and drive improvements in sensor interaction techniques.

  4. Model and Fuse Sensor Signals: Design, develop, implement, and test sensor fusion and ML algorithms to unlock the capabilities of novel AR/VR interaction devices.

  5. Drive Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams of engineers, designers, and researchers to integrate sensor technologies into immersive experiences.

  6. Push State-of-the-art: Push the envelope in sensor technologies, human-computer interaction, and AR/VR to inform and contribute to our research projects.

  7. Write Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of research findings, methodologies, and experiment results.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. PhD degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Human-Robot Interaction or a related field.

  2. 3+ years' experience in wearable sensor technologies (e.g. capacitive, inertial, optical, EMG), signal processing, machine learning, or related areas.

  3. 3+ years' experience with sensor prototyping, ME/EE design, experimental design and data analysis.

  4. Experience with state estimation e.g. Kalman Filters.

  5. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or MATLAB.

  6. Problem-solving skills and an analytical mindset demonstrated in past working experiences.

  7. Effective communication skills.

  8. Experience working collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment.

  9. Willingness to explore new tech & applications in immersive environments.

  10. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  3. Familiarity with psychophysics and running user studies

  4. Familiarity with novel AR/VR specific human-computer-interaction paradigms

  5. Previous publications or contributions to the field of sensor signal modeling or human-computer interaction

Public Compensation:

$143,000/year to $208,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
