Summary:

Instagram is seeking an experienced Communications Associate Manager, Core Product for Instagram to oversee product launches, reactive communications, and proactive PR campaigns.

The ideal candidate is a skilled communications expert who is proactive, can prioritize, is positive and focuses on the most important work for the long-term. The person should have experience launching consumer products to traditional press, new media and influencers to reach key audiences. Telling compelling stories around our most loved products, as well as new features that help our community of a billion get closer to the people and things they love, will be a core part of this role.

The ideal candidate must be able to manage crises and see around the corner to identify upcoming problems that may arise tied to new products and features. The candidate should also be able to come up with proactive communications campaigns around our core products and fully execute them. Finally, this person must be able to work well cross-functionally both within the communications team and across various organizations including product, product marketing, engineering and design.

This is a full-time position located at our headquarters in either San Francisco, California or Menlo Park, California.

Required Skills:

  1. Maintain meaningful relationships with key technology and consumer press

  2. Manage product launches and proactive media programs for Instagram products and initiatives

  3. Develop and create a wide range of communications materials including blog posts, communications plans, reactive statements, briefing materials for executives and more

  4. Prepare and train spokespeople, and staff press briefings and events

  5. Counsel cross-functional partners in engineering, product, policy, legal, and other groups within the company on communications considerations for product updates

  6. Be able to simplify complex ideas or technical issues and make them human, relatable, and visual

  7. Engage on crisis communications topics and be able to quickly drive the team in a given direction

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelors degree in English, Communications, History, Politics or other similar field

  2. 5+ years experience in communications or public relations, both agency and in-house

  3. Experience working at a technology company

  4. Experience working with engineering teams, managing product launches and handling crisis communications situations

  5. Experience creating and executing communications programs for brands

  6. Experience landing narratives and programs beyond traditional media set

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience launching consumer products
