Meta Research Manager, Developer Infrastructure in Seattle, Washington

Summary:

In the Infrastructure org at Meta we build systems that support our internal teams in making data and insights-driven decisions and in shipping awesome products quickly. Our purpose-built tools that define the entire developer lifecycle from code authoring to launch, including reviews, testing & verification, and compliance checks. In the Infra Experiences organization, Product Design and Research work hand-in-hand to improve usability, information architecture, and consistency. Our research insights are the foundation for establishing product vision and strategy in partnership with Engineering, Product Management, and Data Science and other cross-functional partners.We value a diverse range of perspectives and stem from many different backgrounds. We are united in our passion to build a user-first infrastructure that powers how Meta innovates and builds.We use a variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods to accomplish our goals, including in-depth interviews, usability tests, surveys, logs analysis, and internal ethnographic studies.As a research leader in Infrastructure, you’ll grow ICs and lead a team of researchers whose insights drive an integrated and streamlined developer experience. The successful candidate must be an expert researcher who can generate and socialize insights that impact the strategy and product roadmaps of complex and diverse products. The role also requires a proven track record of building and managing high-performing teams, preferably with researchers of different disciplines. Candidates must be able to articulate the vision of the team to cross-functional partners and be a strong advocate for the role of research and the work they're doing and ensure it's leveraged in the product development within the organization. We enable building better infrastructure and world class tooling, to unlock, deliver, and maintain state-of-the-art Developer, Data and AI tools. In service of this vision we partner with countless cross-functional partners across dozens of tools, services and frameworks. It’s our role as designers and researchers to ensure the solutions we create are deeply thoughtful, human and responsible. As a research leader this means leveraging your craft and skills as a proven leader to lead an organization of researchers who can produce insights that teams can take action on; and stories that our range of partners can comprehend. We take extra care and attention into our research methods, research execution, and synthesis - because in the end, these insights guide action that support our bottom line and impact billions of users lives.

Required Skills:

Research Manager, Developer Infrastructure Responsibilities:

  1. Manage a research team that is large in size and/or complexity, incl. expectation-setting and goals for individual contributors and managers and the team.

  2. Make staffing decisions based on business priorities, both short-term and long-term, as well as team strengths and motivation.

  3. Adjust management style to best support each team member. Give clear, actionable feedback on a timely basis.

  4. Shape team strategy, identifying risks and prioritizing opportunities.

  5. Identify gaps and solutions for future growth and scale within the team or organization, including system, product, function, partnership, culture and/or organization opportunities.

  6. Uphold quality for the team, including coaching, growing individual contributors and managers and coaching under-performing team members.

  7. Build a diverse and an inclusive environment across the team, model inclusive behaviors, and teams accountable.

  8. Build our research practice, articulate the vision of the team to cross-functional partners and be a strong advocate for the role of research in product development.

  9. Become a trusted, strategic partner to product stakeholders by communicating and demonstrating the value of user research, and by delivering insights that lead to demonstrable business value.

  10. Develop and clearly communicate a point of view about strategic decisions, across all organizational levels, and across organizational units, using insights from the team. Understand how to influence stakeholders and leaders to implement the best ideas.

  11. Partner with the other org leads to set the vision, mission, and strategy for the organization.

  12. Nurture and develop relationships with other organizations across Meta to accelerate the mission of the team.

  13. Drive team execution, culture, and process across the Infra Experiences community.

  14. Identify ways to elevate and uplevel Research with product leadership

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or significant experience conducting UX research with meaningful business impact

  2. 18+ years of experience conducting and/or studying research post-Bachelor’s degree

  3. 5+ years of experience directly managing, coaching and developing full-time researchers

  4. Experience directly managing across different research methodologies (qualitative and quantitative)

  5. Experience directly conducting primary research (either qualitative or quantitative) end-to-end (i.e., designing, fielding, analyzing and reporting out data)

  6. Experience building teams over time through hiring, growing, and retaining high-performing researchers

  7. Experience building and setting research strategy that connects with business strategy

  8. Track record of translating research into business impact

  9. Experience working with a variety of cross-functional peers and stakeholders (e.g., product managers, engineers, data scientists, designers)

  2. Experience with enterprise/cloud/SaaS/B2B2C software, in developer experiences, in compliance or auditing

  3. 5+ years of UX research experience

  4. 1+ years experience managing managers

Public Compensation:

$192,000/year to $265,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
