Facebook seeks a Policy Communications Associate Manager to support a wide range of initiatives and programs, for the Policy Communications team in Washington, DC. This role will provide cross-functional support for a wide variety of public policy communications issues. A key part of the role will be handling and responding to media requests, drafting statements and responses, and providing background information to help reporters understand Facebook’s policies, features, and positions on public policy issues.

Required Skills:

  1. Develop interesting story ideas around our programs to help educate the press, policy makers and other outside groups.

  2. Work with our policy, small business, and partnership teams to build, understand and communicate corporate and product policies that support and protect our reputation.

  3. Build creative partnerships with public and private organizations.

  4. Develop proactive PR campaigns to educate the media about Facebook's position on public policy issues.

  5. Lead communications activities on some of Facebook's most important policy issues.

  6. Manage in-bound press inquiries on a range of issues.

  7. Develop and pitch stories.

  8. Prepare messaging and other external materials such as blog posts and videos.

  9. Support product launches, policy advocacy, and other announcements.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 5+ years of experience managing press and stakeholder relations in a public policy, issues management or public affairs

  2. Experience drafting messaging materials, and working with cross-functional groups

  3. Experience in working relationships with different press and bloggers

  4. Experience managing issues and driving crisis communications

  5. Experience building outreach programs and managing stakeholder relations at a national or international level

  6. Experience and relationships with reporters in local media markets across the country
