Summary:

Facebook is looking for a Policy Associate Manager to join its Counterterrorism and Dangerous Organizations Team. The team's mission is to maintain the safety of the Facebook community by preventing terrorists, hate groups, and criminal organizations from utilizing Facebook products. The Counterterrorism and Dangerous Organization Team operates within the Product Policy organization at Facebook.

In this role, you will serve as a core expert and point person to develop policy, conceptualize operations, and set engineering priorities related to a wide range of Dangerous Organizations. There are few roles anywhere that offer the ability to have a global impact like this one. You will work in a collaborative environment with a tremendous team of experts to address unprecedented global challenges with no obvious solutions.

The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise on contemporary right and left wing terrorism and the ability to translate that knowledge into policy and operational guidance to engineering and operational teams. In this role, you will engage executives during crises, represent Facebook externally at a high-level, shape and apply policy in novel circumstances, and bury yourself in the details of training materials and algorithmic specifics. No day will be the same. A successful candidate will have a broad understanding of terrorism and political violence, ideally with a demonstrated expertise in right-wing, left-wing, or environmentalist militancy. You should be passionate about the services we provide and the people that we serve.

This is a full-time position located in Washington, DC office or at our headquarters in Menlo Park, California.

Required Skills:

  1. Work cross-functionally with Engineering and Operations teams to develop and implement global policies for the Facebook family of products.

  2. Work closely with Communications and Public Policy teams to develop speeches, scripts and talking-points to explain Facebook policy and solicit feedback from external stakeholders.

  3. Serve as a subject matter expert on hate groups and terrorist organizations.

  4. Conceptualize and implement programs with external partners to counter extremism.

  5. Conceptualize and drive execution of product and programmatic ideas to shape Facebook’s efforts to promote Positive Speech.

  6. Develop and manage external events where you interact with community members who are interested in using Facebook to combat hate and violent extremism.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in public policy, law, political science or related field

  2. 5+ years of work experience in legislation, policing or national security, law, or policy development and implementation

  3. Experience analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data

  4. Project management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. JD, MA, LLM or PhD

  2. Experience at a Tech Company

  3. Fluency in at least one Scandinavian or Slavic language, or Russian
