Facebook Research Scientist, Modeling and Optimization in Washington, District Of Columbia

Summary:

Facebook is seeking a Research Engineer to join and support the Core Data Science team in Washington DC. Individuals in this role are expected to be comfortable working as a software engineer, data analyst, and scientist, and have a desire for solving real-world problems.

Required Skills:

  1. Work with a small group of research scientists that consult with business and product teams to execute their solutions for real-world impact.

  2. Quickly learn and deploy appropriate data science tools and methodologies as needed, with tasks ranging from A/B testing to data processing and analysis to production engineering to optimization and machine learning.

  3. Translate and implement cutting-edge academic research into practical and scalable algorithms.

  4. Create data pipelines gathering large datasets for analysis.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. PhD in STEM field (Computer Science, Engineering, Operations Research, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Biostatistics etc.)

  2. Experience collaborating with engineering and product teams on cross-functional projects

  3. Programmer with experience in Python and R

  4. Experience using data science packages and libraries in Python and R such as NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, ggplot2, dplyr

  5. End-to-end experience assembling, manipulating, and analyzing data (including data extraction, cleaning, visualization, presentation, etc.)

  6. Experience with relational databases and SQL

  7. Experience with machine learning and statistical analysis

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Publication record containing strong applied and methodological research

  2. Experience working with distributed computing tools such as Map/Reduce, Hadoop, Hive, or Presto

  3. Familiarity with modern causal inference and experimental design

  4. Experience writing code in at least one of C++, Java, or PHP
