Facebook Security Engineer, Information Operations in Washington, District Of Columbia

Summary:

The Community Threat Intel, Information Operations team is seeking a talented engineer to work on building tools, methods, processes, and functions to enable team investigative practices. This engineer would be responsible for working directly with investigators to innovate on how the team detects, investigates, and mitigates threats to the FB user base, with a focus on integrating team workflows with other technical projects across the company. Example tasks that they may take on include: prototyping and bringing to production user experience improvements for investigators, creating integrations for and innovations against existing tools, automating pieces of the investigative process through scripting, helping to ensure investigative practices are in line with Facebook’s privacy and security responsibilities, and assisting investigators in applying insights back into detection approaches.

This engineer would also represent the interests of their investigators in cross-functional meetings and working groups with other engineers focused on development in Hack and with other data analysts at Facebook, and may at times be required to assist with broader engineering efforts within their organization.

A strong candidate will be interested in building out a scalable approach to our global investigations, will be excited by the prospect of searching for and integrating new data sources into our code base, and will not be phased by working in a flexible and dynamic environment, coding in multiple languages, or by needing to work with multiple actively developed APIs and interfaces. Demonstrated interest in the security or investigations space is expected, and direct experience developing or investigating is expected.

Required Skills:

  1. Assist analysts and investigations regarding malicious activity on Facebook

  2. Work full stack to build and improve tools to provide insight into abuse on the platform

  3. Work closely with various teams to improve operational guidelines and help coordinate cross-team responses to keep Facebook's users safe

  4. Improve the investigations and analytical processes by drawing on knowledge of Facebook's codebase and the characteristics of abuse on the platform

  5. Work very closely both with investigations staff and other teams cross-functionally within the company

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Demonstrated experience in Python and/or PHP

  2. Experience working with additional languages and interfaces

  3. Experience with security and investigations space

  4. Experience with API development and usage

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Proficiency with Hack, GraphQL and SQL

  2. Familiarity with data analysis leveraging big data sets

  3. Familiarity with the information security space and common investigative tooling needs

  4. Experience with investigative tooling development
